The Shops

WFC consists of a Wood Shop and a Metal Shop adjacent to a sound-reduced lounge equipped with a kitchenette, WiFi, and large screen TV.

Wood Shop

Brendan and Richard, the cofounders, worked with an advisory group of experienced woodworkers to build a safe, pleasant, clean  environment.

The shop is fully equipped so woodworkers can build everything from small pens to wooden boxes and larger pieces of furniture.  Some recent examples are shown in the Member Project Gallery.

Members working in the shop
Saw Stop Table Saw

The woodshop is equipped with professional quality tools from SawStop®, Festool®, Powermatic®, Laguna®, Jet®, Bosch®, Bora® and others.

Major tools include two table saws, a 16″ jointer, a 22″ planer, two band saws, a miter saw, disk, belt, spindle and drum sanders, a lathe, several routers, and two drill presses.

There are a variety hand-held power tools to use, including: orbital sanders, track saw, plunge router, and a domino joiner.

More recently developed specialty equipment such as a CNC machine, a laser cutter, and 3D printers are available in the shop.

A finishing room is isolated from the woodshop and provides adequate ventillation and lighting so that stains and finishes are applied in a clean, dust-free environment.

A variety of dust collectors are used to remove dust at the source, and along with suspended air filters, the shop air is virtually dust-free. Of course, we can’t eliminate all dust, but the air is clean enough so that individual masks or respirators are unnecessary.

Metal Shop

The metal shop is available to all members who pass the metal shop safety certification.  We intend to hire a metal worker to give classes designed for WFC members to incorporate metal into their projects.

Detailed Description of the WFC Woodshop

The organization of the shop and its operations are described in the WFC Member Manual.

Shop operations, safety information and videos, and the WFC Safety Certification program are described. Appendices include  lists of tools and specialty jigs, and local information such as hardwood suppliers.

Shop Schematic

White Flint Creations is almost 4,000 sq. ft. of space.  Upon entering WFC (see the bottom  left in schematic), you are in the first of two sound-reduced lounges.   Proceed through the lounges, to enter the woodshop.

Wood Shop major power tools shown include:

Table saws (2),  Jointer (16″), Planer (22″), Miter saw,    Lathe, Band Saws (2), Sanders, CNC Router, Laser Cutter/engraver

The workbenches (WB) are 20” wide and 72” long. As shown, two benches can be clamped together for working on larger projects.

Numerous storage areas accommodate partially completed projects.  The dust-free finishing room (bottom right) has enhanced lighting for discriminating surface imperfections before and during stain or top coat application.

Metal Shop

There is an entry door directly from the lounge.  The metal fabrication power tools shown here include:

CNC Plasma Cutter, Band Saw, Drill Press, Knee Mill, MIG Welder, Acetyline torch, Metal Shear and Brake Roller, Induction Heater, Multifunction Welder and Cutter, Bench Grinder, and belt sanders

Equipment List

Woodworking covers a range of overlapping interests, such as building furniture, turning, carving, constructing small objects such as cutting boards and boxes, and artistic sculpture. Similarly, metal fabrication can include creating legs for tables,  forging knives, creating custom gift medalions, as well as artistic pieces.  A seemingly infinite number of tools, jigs, and techniques could be used in one or more of these activities, and we work with our members to secure the tools necessary so they can successfully complete their projects.
